And it's Good Night From Him!!

And it's Good Night From Him!! The title refers to the fish which has been captured by the heron and isheading for a speedy demise.  As water levels now finally drop fishing seems to be getting increasingly easy, so there should be some fat Heron's around soon. I visited Hayle and Marazion.  Sighted the Glossy Ibis but only picture I grabbed was  not good, so no post on that. Despite visiting both locations the only images here are from Hayle as Marazion was very quiet.

Kingfishers Showing Well at Marazion

Went out to try and get the Kingfisher today at Marazion.  Noticed last week a couple of perches  were in regular use. Got in position and within 15 minutes two Kingfishers came through the reeds together. Anyhow they fished in the area on/off for the next couple of hours.  Despite rubbish lighting and a long distance I did get some record shots. You can view/photograph them from the left side of the East wall up a channel behind the small island. Below also is a Egret enjoying a dragonfly snack!!! Wagtail bathing and a Dunnock.

Lands End to Nanjizal

My first visit to Nanjizal, great looking valley and beach very scenic. Lots off warblers (heard but not seen) buntings, pipits, wheatears, stonechats etc. Spent a couple of hours there. Might travel around the cycle track tomorrow, Nanquidno or Marazion. Be around somewhere!!! A couple of images below, if the id's are wrong just drop me a line.

Water Everywhere

Ok I must admit whilst everyone seems to be out getting great images of Woodchat Shrikes, Goshawk, Whinchats, Wryneck etc I have had a poorly productive week despite trekking around the Lands End Sennen area for about 4 hours. (Everything must of seen me coming and went to hide!!!) So visited Lands End and headed towards Sennen back/forth for the afternoon. Then visited Stithians a couple of days later again nothing new.  Should have better luck this weekend, well don't think it could be any worse? Onto the pictures below a Tree Pipet (I think), Grey Wagtail, Cormorant bathing and Coot doing what Coots do. Photographing  the Grey Wagtail I lost all concentration and didn't change the camera settings from an earlier picture, hence the slow shutter speed. Whereas on the Cormorant the slow shutter was deliberate to create a motion/blur effect; which I think worked quite well for a first attempt, might just tweak up the shutter speed next time.

Marazion Marshes and Ryan's Field

Another early start saw me commence the day at Marazion Marsh.  Really quiet couple of hours here. I was going to leave when the swallows arrived and started to dip near the wall, as usual during this fast moving action very few pictures came out, still managed to nail one below. Also from here a  Mute Swan and Warbler. Set off to Hayle where the Kingfisher was sat on the bank for a while but a long distance from the hyde area. Sandpiper appeared here and a gruesome piece of fishing by an egret. (the fish actually escaped but with a beak size hole in its head I doubt wether it survived)

I have had to start copyrighting accross the images, to avert people downloading them etc hopefully this will not spoil your viewing. I will be investing in software soon where the disabling of mouse right click etc will prevent illegal downloading/printing copying etc. So until then the images will have a copyright notice accross them.

Morning Cormorants

An early morning start, well 8am, and I was at Marazion. Nothing around but the Cormorants seemed to be early risers and coupled with the superb lighting today I managed some good quality images.  So I shall try the same again tomorrow and hopefully there will be a bit more activity.

Spotted Crake at Marazion Marsh

Quick visit to Stithians nothing happening there. Went home did a spot of plumbing finished about 4pm so nipped down Marazion. Once there true to form it rained. So low light and damp to contend with. Saw the spotted crake a short distance away. It was in amongst the reeds so I selected an f stop of F9 to gain some depth of field as it was difficult to pick out the bird. This mean't I was shooting at 1/30-1/40th sec. So the shots are acceptable but not 100 million % sharp.

Catch a fish and eat it all in seconds

This is a new area for me but following on from yestersdays post on fishing; I thought I would try an animated GIF of the heron and his catch. From catching it to swallowing, it was gone it five/six seconds and 18 pictures. To get a smoother animation I reckon I would of had to shoot a sequence of 54 images! Not sure the camera's buffer would cope with that. Any way the GIF is below, think you will get the idea of the Heron's efficient technique.

Fishing at Hayle today

Visited Marazion first but due to being somewhat windswept I decided on a bit of shelter at Hayle hide. Nothing unusual here although a lot of fishing going on. Four images of the fishing action, only the crab was spat back in unceremoniously and the rest was gleefully consumed.
