Glossy Ibis at Helston

Unusual visitor for Helston, a Glossy Ibis (Plegadis falcinellus) near Helston boating lake. A very approachable bird, unfazed by dog walkers etc. Very busy continually feeding most of the time. A bit more sunlight would of been good for photography but think I got some images during the suns brief appearances.

Helston Christmas Lights Switch On

A windy night but I managed to find a shelterd spot down the boating lake for the firework display. In town the lights were being blown all over the place so no pictures of those. Last time I did this event the town was packed with people, seemed a bit of a low turn out for this year for some reason. I didn't see as many stalls either this year. (maybe they all just left after the firework display?) Still a good effort to get into the spirit of things by some businesses, The Rodney Inn, Gilllians Larder and some others. (Possibly November is just to early?) Official Xmas lights look splendid so I may re-visit when it is less windy to get some shots of them.

The Beast from the East in Cornwall

A first for a long while, some substantial snow in Cornwall. I managed to get to Penzance,Porthleven and Helston. I got 4 wheel drive but  a lot of other people with incapable cars or just driving like idiots creating huge jams on the roads. Still got some scenic stuff and may try again today although forecast isn't looking to good with storm Emma on the way. The snowfall was quite heavy with Penzance been covered in about 30 minutes. Here are some shots from when the snow hit Penzance and I worked my way back towards Helston.

Still Here!!!!

Apologies for the lack of blog updates lately. Due to illness/van repairs just not been possible to get any photography done. Hopefully back on track sometime next week. Recently though I have completed a stunning Porthleven Storm image on a huge scale. Size is approx 1.5m x 1m, this image with others is featured in the present window display at Pictures and Things Gallery in Helston. Also featured is a superb 1/24th scale supermarine spitfire built by local model builder Ian McInnes.

International Space Station over Cornwall

I decided to attempt to photograph the International Space Station as it passed over Helston Cornwall on the 5th Aug 2017.  It's a little distant but I did get it you may need to enlarge the image to see it!!! Also a moon shot from the night also.

Vistors to RNAS Culdrose

After a somewhat quiet period aircraft visitor wise at RNAS Culdrose, it was good to see a couple of visitors. An MH 60S Knighthawk helicopter from the United States Navy made a short stop. This was followed around the same time by an A400M of 70 Squadron RAF carrying out some practice approaches. A resident 736 squadron hawk also put in an appearance.
