Starlings at Marazion

Well I likely picked the worst day this week to observe the starling murmuration at Marazion, low dark cloud resulted in really poor conditions for photography, but I still gave it a go, here are the results:

The Sparrowhawk looking for a "Starling supper"
Starlings above the reed bed
Going down to roost, almost dark when this image was taken, hence the slow shutter speed which I quite like showing the starlings that are still airbourne as black streaks.

Dunnock at Men an Tol from the previous day

A break in the cloud on the horizon produced a superb sunset over Penzance/Newlyn

Northern Harrier at Men an Tol

Ok  I have been informed what I initially thought was a Hen Harrier is in fact be a Northern Harrier. Myself and Adam Holmes spotted the bird at Men an Tol on Saturday 23rd November, admittedly we were uncertain  and thought it may be a juvenile Hen Harrier! However since submitting the image to Dave Parker at CBWPS who found it "interesting" more images were submitted and the Northern Harrier identity confirmed a first for Cornwall.

From Birding World "

We did an ID and ageing paper on this species a couple of winters ago, and it matches perfectly a couple of photos in that article;
Effectively adult in all respects (inc scooped black on primaries) but for the chestnut chevrons on the flank/auxiliaries make it a younger bird"

Even though they are just in my view record shots, it make all the trekking up and down Men an Tol worth it when something this rare turns up!

Photography Exhibition

I am showing a photography exhibition in Epworth Hall, Helston, running from the 2nd - 8th December, at the same time as an ice skating rink will be open behind Epworth Hall.  So please pop down and have a look and if your up for it check out the ice skating rink also. My exhibition will feature images from Helston Flora Day, Helston Flora Horse Show, Helstonbury, Porthleven Storms, Night Photography and some of my Wildlife Images.

Examples of different types of media I can offer will be on display including Large format poster prints, Museum Paper, Pearl Paper, Canvas, Aluminum Di Bond Prints and Fuji professional papers.  The image selection below is a small preview of the exhibition.

I sort of volunteered to do this at short notice hence the lack of posts lately, I didn't realise how much was involved, lol

Starlings at Lands End

Well a very windy Lands End mean't holding the camera steady was almost impossible.  Still out of the windy skies a flock of starling dropped into the car park. So I gave it a go and got a couple of nice shots!

Windy Porthleven

Well looks like Cornwall missed the forecast bad weather again, although the waves and wind were bigger than last week alleged hurricane! I went to Lands End but not much sea swell there, although it was super windy! Right then, here are the images from Porthleven (only a matter of time before we get a proper winter storm)

Last Call for Charity Art Auction in aid of Little Harbour Childrens Hospice

Funds raised from the auction will help to provide wildlife habitats, meadows, nest boxes, feeding stations and other features to attract wildlife.  All with the aim of providing life enhancing benefits and pleasure the natural world can bring for children who attend the hospice. If fund raising targets are reached then the excess will provide much needed funds towards the running of the hospices.

The auction will take place this Sunday November 3rd at 3pm (viewing from 1pm)

Auction venue: Auction will be conducted by Philip Buddell at The Merchant House Hotel, Falmouth Road, Truro TR1 2HL

In addition to the auction lots many other works will be offered for sale on the day and a prize draw. You can also bid by post if you cannot appear at the auction.

Bidding via post and more details here: http://www.arobinssong.co.uk/

Just a small example of the artworks on offer/auction.

The photographs accompanying the article do not truly reflect the high quality of the artwork on offer. Bear in mind colour accuracy and cropping etc. A small black border has also been placed around each photograph.

The priority aim of the images is to give you a sense of the quality of work on offer.
